Transaction Close: 34MWp solar PV plant in India

Aug 17, 2021

Orisun Invest

Technique Solaire acquired a 34MWp solar PV plant in operation in Uttar Pradesh, India, from Jakson Group.

Orisun Invest would like to congratulate Technique Solaire and Jakson Group for the successful acquisition/sale of a 34MWp solar PV plant in operation in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Technique Solaire is a very dynamic French renewable IPP, active in solar and biogas, in Europe and India, with 150MWp of solar capacities in operation. The group has a pipeline of more than 600MW currently under development, with a target of 1GW in operation/construction by 2024. In 2020, Bpifrance and Crédit Agricole de la Touraine et du Poitou joined the group as strategic shareholders.

Jakson is a leading family-owned energy group in India, and well-known EPC company. The group has also a module factory, and a solar IPP branch, with close to 200MW of solar capacities in operation, both in rooftop and ground based. The group is now accelerating its solar development across different segments and has initiated this sale to deploy more funds towards its new targets.

Orisun Invest is proud to have acted as originator and support during the negotiation. We conducted preliminary due diligence of the project, identified the investor, and brought commercial support to both parties during the negotiation phase, from the signing of Term Sheet until the signing of the SPA and transaction close.

Congratulation to both teams, it has been a pleasure working with and learning from you. We're also very happy to see that this transaction is the beginning of a promising partnership, as this is the fundamental reason why we have established our company: to contribute, even if only a little, to the acceleration of the energy transition.

About India

India has seen an economic growth above 6%/y during the last decade and is about to become the most populated country in the world. Managing its growth to reach higher HDI levels, while fighting against climate change and keeping its environmental footprint at minimum, are major challenges.

Recently the country went past 100GW of renewable energy capacity installed and has set an ambitious target of 450GW for 2030. However, oil consumption has grown by close to 40% during the same period and air pollution in cities have reached extraordinary level. Coal still makes up for 44% of the primary energy demand and its consumption has been growing also by close to 50%.

India has built a solid expertise and industry in solar, and will certainly continue, accelerate, and improve its energy transition. International partnerships, both in the private and public sectors, contribute to fund the massive investments required across all sectors.
